Family Generosity & Fun
When you take the Banana Gang Pledge "you pwomise" (among other things) "to twy to have some fun evwy day". Here's an example of how easy it can be. Last week we were invited by a family member to a Nature Trust fund-raiser. The Nature Trust of British Columbia is a non-governmental charitable organization dedicated to preserving some of B.C.'s endangered ecosystems and areas of spectacular beauty. It's certainly a worthwhile cause.
We decided to go and support family and the cause. The event was held in a local pub. There was good food and great live music. The joint was packed with friends of the Nature Trust and the feeling was like being around an extended family. Part of the evening was a silent auction fund-raiser.
As the evening moved along I was told I should go take a look, as there was some interesting stuff on the silent auction tables; so off I went. There on a table with other more conventional items was this odd looking formation. It's a Cow Pie Clock! No kidding….a cow pie clock! An "original" piece of artwork all solidified and shiny with a clock implanted in the middle with "little droppings" (from others?) for numbers. And a battery is included! How could I resist a bid?
As fate would have it, I had the top bid. I was now the proud owner of a Cow Pie Clock! Now what to do with it? Christmas present…Birthday…Office wall?? After serious consideration I decided to offer it as a "consolation prize" to my NFL Poolies group - ten family members and friends who enjoy striving weekly to guess the right picks in the National Football League. Fun on top of fun, I surmised. Kinda like the icing on the cake, or more pointedly the droppings on……whatever!
Well suffice it to say, I have only had a few replies from fellow poolies to date. One poolie was "speechless". I'll just have to wait and see…Maybe I'll offer it on eBay and give the proceeds back to the Nature Trust! Time will tell. What's important here (other than publicly divulging my sick sense of humour) is it proved once again that generosity is fun.
I had no idea that my attendance at the fund-raiser would afford me the opportunity to have such fun with "the pie". My intent was simply to support family and the cause. Now each time I share the story it brings a smile to my face. And it's not over yet. It brings with it this joyful state. I can actually feel its' lightness. Simple cause and effect. Family…Generosity…Fun…Joy! And now I get to share it with you!
