Boomer Generation: Generosity and 9/11

a ray of hopeDid you watch the recent account of a former U.S. Marine who just happened to be near ground zero in New York that tragic day 6 years ago. His story was central to a truly emotional T.V. show that built his family a wonderful new home. A beautiful example of joy thru generosity!

A bright light shined out of the darkness that day when he risked his own safety to find two policemen alive, trapped in the rubble. Like countless others, many of whom gave their lives for others that day and despite the life threatening conditions, he found the courage to act; not for reward or praise but because he is a human being and it was something he just had to do.

THE TRANSITION GENERATION 1946 - 1964

Big Guy & Little Guy“Once upon a time not too long ago there were these two guys.  One guy was pretty big so he was called Big Guy. The other guy wasn’t so big yet so he was called Little Guy.  They were pals!  They loved to go on these adventures together and each time Big Guy brought his compass and Little Guy brought his whistle.  One day…………………….”

These words are taken from a relationship formed between a grandfather and his grandson.  They took shape through circumstance, imagination and love in a series of bedtime stories.  (We now share them as Big Guy and Little Guy Adventure Stories.)  They echo the joy of nurturing and the need for young boys to have a positive male role model. This relationship is an example of the unexpected that can happen to families at any time.  We can make plans but we can’t plan outcomes!

As in most cases the outcome was a joyful experience.  Somehow, through the twists and turns of life, a father with grown children found himself as surrogate father figure to his grandson.  When a father helps rear his son and daughters there is an intuitive knowing the relationship will last a lifetime in some shape or fashion.  However, little thought, if any, is given to one day being a “father figure” to a grandchild.  Well it's happening!

About Us

Greetings Fellow Travellers!

We welcome you from beautiful Parksville, British Columbia, Canada!  We have jumped down the “rabbit hole” & entered the field of all possibilities, embracing the wisdom of uncertainty. TwinkleTone Productions is our vehicle of choice.

Our vision is altruistic and we believe that it’s attainable! We want to share the joy that generosity produces. Through  www.joythrugenerosity.com, we’re offering a variety of interesting resources that reflect the social aspects of generosity, integrity, personal growth, environmentally-friendly living, and of course, humour!

In our ever-changing world, baby boomers are taking on roles and responsibilities they have never experienced before, such as, living in a time of rapidly advancing technology; re-energizing our environment and for some, parenting as grandparents.

Our goal is to provide accessible, quality resources to nurture family and extended family life in a spirit of enhanced generosity and resulting joyfulness. We’re dedicated to offering high quality multi-media resources for educators, employers and families, including children’s products.

TwinkleTone Productions was formed by a couple of “joyful” souls, Cathy Loewen and Anthony White. We’re a social purpose enterprise founded on the belief that each of us can enhance our well-being and the planet by spreading joy thru acts of generosity.

Cathy Loewen (BA; Professional Dip. (Ed.); MA (Ed. Psych.); Dip. Filmmaking):
Down the “rabbit hole” I go! My curious nature has taken me on various twists & turns on this path we call life! I come to you with a background in education, community social services and filmmaking.  I’ve been fortunate to work as an educator, counsellor, program manager and filmmaker, to name but a few of my many incarnations. I love creating projects & watching them take off. I’m finding the launch of our new “creation”www.joythrugenerosity.com very exciting!
I have two grown children who are creating adventures of their own, and when I’m not on the computer, I love to run the beautiful trails on Vancouver Island. And oh yeah, I love beating Tony at bocce ball on a regular basis!
Anthony White (ACOA; PTSD?; ADD and Cheerful Leader of the Banana Gang):   Rabbit hole indeed! Risky business this human being thing! And fun too! I recently “graduated” after some 30 years experience in community social service programming and administration. Prior to that, I enjoyed stints in the recording industry and public recreation.  Throughout the Hi Ho Hi Ho journey (I actually do like to sing while I work), I have continued my involvement in the arts through music and theatre. For the past ten years my “MunkyMan” character has mirrored the TTP philosophy of bringing kindness and humour to the young at heart.
I have 3 grown children and three grandchildren (so far!). I thoroughly enjoy most sports, watching old movies with the "Diva" and continue to explore the horizons of personal & spiritual growth with family and friends. Oh yeah, and I love “letting” Cathy win at Bocce ball!

CHRISTMAS! WHERE THE HEART IS!

joysantatree Many years ago I found myself far from home as Christmas approached.  I was in a country that spoke a different language and I hardly knew anyone I was with.  There was no escaping the fact it was December 24th and the next day was sure to come.

Had I been a child removed from mum, dad, sisters and a visit to Santa, I can imagine the trauma of no stocking hanging on the mantle, no tree, no presents, no Christmas songs to sing along with (“All I want for Christmas Is My Two Front Teeth” and Gene Autry singing “Frosty the Snowman” were my favorites) and no turkey dinner!  I would have found a way to celebrate in some way.  No matter what! .

This wasn’t going to be easy.  The place where we were staying had no fir or pine trees to chop down for a Christmas tree, let alone a stove to cook a turkey.  Heck there weren’t even any turkeys in that part of the planet.  What about gifts?  Presents?  Oh, what to do?  When in doubt call an emergency meeting!   We huddled up and agreed ….if there was a will there was a way…. we needed to capture that magic of Christmas spirit found in a child. The adventure had begun!

Transition Generation "One Moment at a Time"

Far from the maddening crowds and competition of Beijing, and oblivious to  the power plays in other far away places; it’s August on Vancouver Island.  The morning sunrise over Craig Bay is truly a blessing to behold.  It’s going to be another hot one today!  Freshly brewed coffee in hand, I take it all in.

Something's Happening Here Boomers!

Springtime Flowers“Hard as it may be to believe in these days of infectious greed and sabers unsheathed , scientists have discovered that the small, brave act of cooperating with another person, of choosing trust over cynicism, generosity over selfishness, makes the brain light up with quiet joy”…………. Nice eh!

Reading Rambam’s Ladder (A Meditation on Generosity and Why It Is Necessary to Give) by Julie Salamon introduced me to this little gem.  The quote was borrowed from an article written by Natalie Angier and fit nicely into Ms. Salamon’s meditation.  Somethings happening here!

BOOMERS IN SOUTH EAST ASIA

 Phnom Penh kids

Good friends just returned from a trip to Thailand and Cambodia.  When asked about their adventure one thread was continual.  They were consistently moved by the smiles on the faces of the people they came in contact with - moments of pure joy.

They told us of the blessing given to them by a blind street merchant after a small sale; the stranger freely giving directions; little ragamuffin children waving “Hello” from their small one room huts on stilts; the true thanks for a tip from a driver, a waiter or guest house clerk and how they bowed gently with their hands in child like prayer.)  Honest gratitude was commonplace.
